The ‘In it for a Minute’ 60 second cold water challenge, which takes place each Boxing Day, is a great way to cure any excessive Christmas Day indulgences… and ‘Smilers’ from all over the UK take part! It follows a tradition established by events such as the Tenby Boxing Day Swim, which the foundation has supported in the past.
The UK Wife Carrying Championships are held every year in Dorking as a ‘warm up’ for the Leigh Hill Half Marathon. Having won the inaugural event back in 2008, AWAS has been carrying wives ever since!
Pulled by two mountain bikes alongside one another, the World Mountain Bike Chariot Races utilises special chariots built using traditional Roman mild steel, vulcanised rubber and welding techniques, and see’s teams race against each other and the clock to determine a World Champion.
The Mappleton Bridge Jump, which takes place at midday on New Years Day, serves as the most extravagant way to cure a hangover from the night before… and it’s easy to understand why!
As is tradition, on Boxing Day each year ‘Smilers’ all across the UK freshen up by visiting their nearest lake or beach to take on a 60 second cold water challenge!
On the first Sunday of December each year, the Liverpool Santa Dash competes with Las Vegas for the largest collection of people dressed as Santa Claus in one place… and AWAS has been running this 5k event for more than a decade!
In November 2019, Always With A Smile teamed up once again with the boys from ‘The Duckpond’ for a ‘Sexy Bingo’ night, raising money for the Warrington Disability Partnership.
