The Roebuck Inn, on Burnley Road East in Rosendale, Lancashire plays host to the World Clog Cobbing Championships. The event involves one back alley, several very old and smelly clogs and three chucks... over the back of your head! 'Cobbers' have to try and avoid the river flowing next to the alley, as a mis-throw can mean wet feet! In 2010, I competed for the very first time and, cheered on by the local revellers, I walked away World Clog Cobbing Champion, cobbing the clog a distance of 86 feet! I was then lucky enough to be included in the traditional tug-of-war competition between the Roebuck Inn and a rival pub.
